Visa FAQ

  • Can a non-visa-exempt student apply for a visa through a Maltese Mission?
    No, all appointments made after the 1st of March 2024 must be processed using Identità’s new system.
  • In case a student gets a job offer in the first 4 weeks, will he/she be allowed to work?
    Students are allowed to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week once their employment license is issued by JobsPlus.
  • Is it possible for students from visa-exempt countries who will be attending a course lasting more than 105 days, to apply for a visa while in Malta?
    All students following a course of more than 105 days must apply for a visa via the extended service, before arrival.
  • Does a student have to apply for a long-term visa if they book a long-term course?
    Yes, if a student books a course lasting more than 105 days, they must apply for a long-term study visa before arrival.
  • What is the financial proof that the student must provide when applying for a student visa?
    €26 per day – when the student provides us with an accommodation that has not been paid for the whole duration of the course, such as lease agreements (paid monthly); €18 per day – when the student provides us with paid accommodation covering the whole duration of the course, such as school accommodation. If a student provides accommodation through an online platform for the first 14 nights, the daily rate needs to be calculated at €26.
  • Will return flight tickets still be requested?
    For courses longer than 6 months (180 days) return flight tickets are not requested.
  • What is the procedure for countries that require a visa to enter the Schengen area and do not have a VFS office in their country?
    Identità may provide other services on a case-to-case basis. Applicants may also travel to a neighboring country and apply for a visa via the extended service.
  • Are students allowed to book their appointment three months before the course commencement date?
    Yes, students may book their appointment up to six months before the course begins.
  • Do students from visa-exempt countries have to attend their visa interview at the VFS office?
    Interviews are currently being conducted at the VFS office or online, via Microsoft Teams.
  • What is the procedure for students who enter Malta with their visa exemption for a short-term course and wish to extend?
    If the course is extended by a minimum of 8 weeks, the student may apply for a visa extension with the Central Visa Unit (proof that the student followed a short-term course must be provided).
  • Is the procedure the same for visa-exempt countries with no VFS offices?
    Students from visa-exempt countries with no VFS office, may enter with their exemption and apply for a visa upon arrival (Identità cannot be held responsible if the applicants encounter any problems with border control in other Schengen countries), or the student may travel to a neighboring country and apply for a visa via the extended service.
  • If a student has his visa application refused, can he appeal the decision?

  • What will I gain from my English course?
    Having the opportunity to practice the skills, particularly speaking, will enable your passive knowledge of English to become active. You will learn new vocabulary and grammar and have plenty of opportunity to use it. You will gain confidence and competence to communicate and use your newly acquired language.
  • Will I get a certificate?
    At the end of your stay you will receive a certificate indicating the type and length of course you have taken.
  • Is my teacher qualified?
    Yes – all our teachers are qualified according to Maltese law and many have further qualifications above the minimum legal requirement. They also meet the requirements of the relevant accrediting bodies – the ELT Council of the Ministry of Education and the Federation of English Language Teaching Organizations of Malta (FELTOM). Over and above these qualifications, our teachers are dedicated and enthusiastic about helping their students to progress and reach the level that is attainable during their stay.
  • What opportunities will I have to communicate in English?
    We use the Communicative Language Teaching method (CLT) in our classes. This method uses communication in English as a learning tool, which guarantees maximum use of the language. You will also have plenty of opportunity to practice your English during school activities with students of various nationalities.
  • Is the school open all year round?
    Yes, the school is open all year round except on public holidays (please refer to Price List).
  • Can I choose my timetable?
    No, your lessons might be held in the morning or in the afternoon depending on availability. Timetable cannot be guaranteed.
  • How can I improve my English outside the classroom?
    You will be able to speak English with other students during the afternoon and evening activities organised by the school. It is also a good idea to borrow English books from our library. These books are graded according to level. The school holds regular film nights, which will improve your understanding of English. If you are staying with one of our host families, you will also be able to make conversation with them.
  • What will I do in class?
    You will follow a course book which will help you with your grammar and vocabulary, as well as enabling you to practice the four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking. You will also be given the opportunity to interact with other students to practice these skills and improve your fluency.
  • When can I start the course?
    You can join standard courses (General English, Intensive English) on any Monday and you can book as many weeks as you like. Lessons are from Monday to Friday.
  • How will I know if I am making progress?
    During your lessons your teacher will provide you with new language and help you to improve your language skills according to your level. Your progress will be monitored by the teacher and you will have regular progress tests. If you are following a long-term programme you will have monthly progress reports.
  • Will I be in the right class?
    Before starting your course, we will send you an online placement test and you will have a short interview to assess your knowledge of English. Following this we will place you in an appropriate class.
