English lessons are at the heart of our business, and we have over 40 years experience in teaching English as a foreign language. Our teachers draw from a range of approaches and methodologies to create a student focused learning environment adapted to each student’s needs.

We offer a flexible range of courses to meet your personal aims. Whether you’re planning to pass an exam, aiming to improve your career prospects or simply looking for a holiday with a difference, we have a course for you.

Our Lessons

At IELS the lessons are designed to motivate you and keep you actively involved in learning. They are focused on communication and the practice of skills. Lessons include activities such as pair work/group work, role plays, class discussions and mini projects.

We are committed to delivering the highest standards of teaching to make sure that each student’s competence and confidence improves.

Placement Test

Online Test

Before arriving at IELS, we will send you an online placement test to assess your level. We will also interview you online to help us allocate you the right class and level according to your English language abilities. Our levels are linked to the Common European Framework (CEF).

Levels

  • A1 – You can understand and use basic everyday expressions, introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions, and communicate in familiar situations when others speak slowly and clearly.

  • A2 - You can understand and use everyday expressions related to familiar topics, communicate in simple routine situations, and describe your experiences, surroundings and immediate needs.

  • B1 - You can understand the main points of clear, everyday English, communicate in most situations, and produce simple connected text on familiar topics.

  • B1+ - You can understand the main ideas of more detailed spoken and written English, communicate with increasing confidence and fluency in a range of everyday situations, and express and justify your opinions on familiar topics.

  • B2 – You can understand the main ideas of more complex texts, communicate fluently and spontaneously, and interact confidently with native speakers in a wide range of situations.

  • C1 - You can express yourself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. You can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.

Teaching Methods

Classroom

The right class for you: We test every student’s English skills to make sure you are in the right class, and we will continue to check that you are in the right class throughout your course.

Varied lessons: We use a mix of teaching styles and a variety of modern media to develop all key skills.

Helping you improve: We want you to reach the highest possible level, monitoring your progress and giving you advice on how to improve both at the school and when you return home. Long-stay students will be tested regularly to check their progress.

Lots of practice: You will have plenty of practice and lots of interaction with your teacher and class, and you can use your new skills straight away with your fellow students while you’re exploring our country.

Proof of your progress: We will issue you with a certificate to show the lessons you have taken and the level you have achieved.

All our teachers are CELTA/TEFL qualified and we also run training schemes to develop teachers’ skills. Over and above these qualifications, our teachers are dedicated and enthusiastic about helping their students to progress and reach the level that is attainable during their stay.
